The Southern Crescent Breastfeeding Coalition is a group of breastfeeding & lactation professionals, educators, supporters, and advocates serving the south Metro Atlanta area.

Mission

The mission of the Southern Crescent Breastfeeding Coalition is to encourage collaboration among South Metro Atlanta breastfeeding advocates in order to more effectively promote and support breastfeeding in our communities.

Vision

Our vision is that all women, infants, and families in our communities would have the education, encouragement, assistance, and support they need to reach their breastfeeding goals, leading to increased breastfeeding rates in our community, healthier families, and a healthier, more productive community.

Goals

  1. To promote communication, encouragement, education, and support among coalition members and member organizations
  2. To provide education, outreach, and support to physicians, health care providers, businesses, and community organizations so that they can more effectively support breastfeeding families.
  3. To increase public awareness of the health benefits of breastfeeding for mothers, children, and communities
  4. To encourage and promote breastfeeding as the normal human infant food and feeding method

Methods

  • Provide the breastfeeding support community with evidence-based education, resources, encouragement, best practices, scientific research, and networking opportunities.
  • Provide resources for mothers and families on where to find breastfeeding education, help, and support
  • Provide resources to help physicians, healthcare providers, and staff in supporting breastfeeding and directing mothers where to get help
  • Educate and encourage physicians and healthcare providers in breastfeeding
  • Facilitate communication among the breastfeeding support community
  • Provide educational opportunities for breastfeeding supporters and the wider healthcare and breastfeeding community
  • Encourage and educate businesses and community organizations on best practices to support breastfeeding
